Man, Juz Kitson has got a fantastic color palette going on. Her forms are a little too overtly gross for me, if you know what I mean, but the spartan display with plenty of white space kind of cleanses the effect they have. I still find it refreshing to encounter artists who are working with clay just as a media of choice, and who seem to feel free from the trappings and distractions of the tradition of pottery and ceramics as a craft. Not to take away from that tradition in any way — it just shouldn’t be the point.
It’s worth taking a closer look.
